Lee Philip, double bass

Lee Philip began double bass studies at age eight and became serious about classical music after participating in a Pennsylvania district orchestra festival where he was inspired by the experienced ensemble musicians and the music of Barber and Copland.  He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Double Bass Performance at the John’s Hopkins University, and his Masters in String Performance and Pedagogy from Northwestern University.  Lee is an alumnus of the Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo, Japan, the Tanglewood Music Center in Lenox, MA, and the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, FL.  In addition to soloing with New World and the York Symphony Orchestras, he has performed with the Baltimore, Chicago, New World, Utah and San Francisco, and Singapore Symphonies.  Lee performs on bass made in Mirecourt, France in the late 1800’s attributed to Gabriel Jacquet.
