Meredith Riley is a violinist from Ithaca, NY, currently residing in Richmond, VA. She recently completed Graduate school receiving an Advanced Music Studies certificate at Carnegie Mellon University under the tutelage of world-renowned violinist, Andres Cardenes. She received her Bachelors in Music in 2012 after studying violin performance with Brian Lewis at the University of Texas in Austin. Riley studied with Linda Case and Laura Bossert, and Margaret Pressley prior to her college degrees. Meredith is a core section violinist for the Richmond Symphony in Richmond, VA. She has been a member of both the Erie Philharmonic first violin section from 2013, and the Canton Symphony from 2014. Her performance awards include receiving the prestigious Diversity Fellowship from the University of Texas in 2012 for an Artist Diploma degree at University of Texas. While in her undergraduate studies, Riley was also the winner of the UTSO competition in 2011, a finalist in the Young Texas Artist competition in 2011, and a semi-finalist in the Crescendo music awards in 2010. She was also the recipient of the Starling scholarship for study at Seattle Conservatory during her senior year of high school. Among other awards, Riley was a junior semi-finalist in 2007 and 2008 National Sphinx Competitions for African American and Latino String players, and has made solo appearances with the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra, Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, New England String Orchestra in addition to the University of Texas Symphony Orchestras. In June 2009, she was selected as a Young Artist for the Starling Delay Symposium at the Juilliard School. Meredith's summer festival experiences includes Encore School for Strings, Heifetz International Music Festival, Chautauqua MSFO, the International Music Academy of Plzen in Czech Republic, Domaine Forget’s intensive chamber music program, Toronto Summer Music Festival, St. Lawrence String Seminar, Bowspeed Masterclass in Cordoba, Spain, Music by the Sea in Bamfield, BC, Steamboat Strings Music Festival, and the International Musical Enghien Encounters in Belgium. Riley is also biracial and actively participates in the Sphinx Organization’s mission of spreading diversity in the arts. In more recent years, she has joined the Sphinx Virtuosi’s national tours to perform in some of the world’s most prestigious halls with the highest caliber musicians, all while simultaneously doing extensive outreach in a diverse range of areas sharing music with communities that may not otherwise have access to it. Riley has become extremely passionate about making music available and accessible to anyone. With the Sphinx Virtuosi ensemble, Riley has made her debut at Carnegie Hall, the New World Center, the Kennedy Center, and Ordway Concert Hall among others.
