David Kidd, trombone

A native of Huntsville, Alabama, David Kidd began playing the trombone in 7th grade. He attended the University of Alabama, graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree, studying under Dr. Jonathan Whitaker. His studies then took him to Boston, where he earned a Master’s degree from the New England Conservatory, studying with Boston Symphony principal Toby Oft. While in Boston, he performed with the Boston Pops, and his trombone quartet won the American Trombone Workshop’s national quartet competition two years in a row. After graduate school, he joined The Orchestra Now, where he performed in Carnegie Hall, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Bing Concert Hall at Stanford University in California. Along with being an acting member of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra in the 22-23 season, he toured Japan with the Boston Symphony, performing seismic works such as Mahler’s Sixth Symphony and Strauss’s Alpine Symphony. He currently resides in Chesapeake, Virginia and when not playing trombone, enjoys bike riding, cooking BBQ on the smoker, and college football.
