Emory Freeman, clarinet

Staff Sergeant Emory Freeman, clarinetist with The United States Army Band “Pershing's Own”, has extensive experience in orchestral ensembles, wind ensembles, and in chamber music settings.

He earned his Master of Music degree on full scholarship at the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music and completed his Bachelor of Music degree at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he was honored with the Outstanding Achievement in Performance Award, recognizing his exceptional talent and dedication. During his studies at the CCM, Emory had the privilege of performing as a soloist with the CCM Wind Symphony, showcasing his artistry in Leonard Bernstein’s Prelude, Fugue, and Riffs.

Driven by his passion for music and its transformative power, Emory explores innovative ways to inspire others to reach their fullest potential. His journey as a musician has been enriched by a variety of experiences, including participation in music festivals such as the National Orchestral Institute + Festival at Home (2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic), the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Summer Institute, the Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival, and the Buffet Crampon Summer Clarinet Academy.

Before joining The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own”, Emory served on the administrative staff of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association, serving as the Operations Coordinator for the Civic Orchestra of Chicago.

Emory's musical journey has been shaped by the guidance of esteemed teachers such as Dr. Charles West, Dr. Tiffany Valvo, Ixi Chen, and Chris Pell.
