Daron Hagen’s new memoir has been called “beautifully written,” “ruthlessly honest,” and “irresistible.” This is a unique chance to hear directly from a composer about what inspires him. Spoiler alert – you might even hear about a certain music festival that takes place in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.
Super-star violinist Rachel Barton Pine, the Czigany Quartet, and special guests take the audience on an unexpected tour of all things metal, bridging Shostakovich and Paganini with Led Zeppelin and Metallica. That’s right – even classical music has its rock and roll moments!
Inspired by Beethoven, Schubert’s Octet is a masterpiece of the large chamber music repertoire. Enjoy an intimate performance of this epic work, performed by our Festival Artists and conducted by our Academy Conductors. Then, toast their accomplishments with a glass of sparkling wine or non-alcoholic beverage in a unique talk-back about the music and the process of becoming a conductor.
