Fresh Perspectives I: Love is in the Air

Wednesday, July 10 at 7:00 pm

Love is in the air in this artistically diverse and rich concert! Composer Alyssa Morris pays tribute to her love of the coast of Monterey, Antonín Dvořák dedicated his second string quintet to his beloved homeland of Bohemia, and Mozart – well, he loved his Quintet for Piano and Winds so much so that he told his father it was the best piece he had ever written! (Granted, he had yet to compose Marriage of Figaro or his final symphonies, but we’ll forgive him for his youthful exuberance over this colorful and creative gem!)

Fresh Perspectives II: A Trio of Trios

Wednesday, July 19 at 6:00 pm

Imagine “a piece that embodies the Wintergreen experience,” and look no further than the Horn Trio in E-flat Major by Johannes Brahms!  In his trio for horn, piano, and violin, Brahms drew inspiration from his long walks in the Black Forest of Germany. Just as we experience at Wintergreen, his work combines the clarity that nature provides with the musical mastery of musicians, thereby creating one of the most iconic pieces of chamber music ever written. Paired with two more recent pieces – each iconic, vibrant, and descriptive in unique ways – don’t miss this musical journey through “a trio of trios”!

Violinist Elizabeth Vonderheide and pianist Eddie Newmam kick off a richly romantic evening of chamber music and bring this memorable piece to life. Combined with a colorful woodwind quintet by Kōda’s contemporary from Berlin, Theodor Blumer, and the incredible (and quirky) “Trout” quintet by Franz Schubert, this concert is sure to remind you why chamber music can be reflective, intimate, and moving!
