Bold Rock II: Who’s Haydn at the Cidery?

Bold Rock II: Who’s Haydn at the Cidery?

Haydn: String Quartet Op. 76, No. 2 “Quintet”
(or “The Donkey”)
Haydn: Divertimento in B-flat Major for woodwind quintet
Plus, special appearances by Academy students!

Papa Haydn was more than the father of the symphony and the string quartet: He was the great jokester of the Classical era. He consistently inserted musical curveballs and humorous gags into his compositions, sometimes just to get a rise out of the audience. Perhaps you’ll be musically surprised, too!

Bold Rock I: Bach with a Twist

J.S. Bach: Partita BWV 1013 for solo flute
J.S. Bach, arr. Schneider: Air on the G String
for woodwind quintet
J.S. Bach, arr. Sitkovetsky: Goldberg Variations (selections)
for string trio

Musicians have been transfixed by Bach since the Baroque era, and for good reason. His music taps into all that makes us human – from the intellectual to the divine. Come explore Bach in an unexpected way – through the lens of the performer. You’ll hear a woodwind quintet play the stunning Air on the G String, a flute perform a tour de force solo partita, and a string trio dive into the Goldberg Variations.
