Seldom Scene. We are featuring long-time progressive bluegrass favorites, Seldom Scene. Seldom Scene will celebrate their 45th anniversary in 2016, having formed in the Washington, DC suburbs in 1971. The current personnel have been together for 20 years and include one of the founding members, banjo player Ben Eldridge. Recent accomplishments include a 2007 Grammy nomination for Scenechronized and 2015 Independent Music Awards for Bluegrass Album of the Year (Long Time... Seldom Scene, Smithsonian Folkways) and Bluegrass Song of the Year (Mean Mother Blues).
Whitetop Mountain Band. We are welcoming back the Whitetop Mountain Band from Virginia's Crooked Road, the cradle of old time mountain music. This outstanding string band began performing in the 1940's and evolved into a popular family band in the 1970's. They performed at the Blue Ridge Mountain Music Fest in 2010. Known for their flat-foot dancing, they are regularly featured at the Carter Family Fold.
James River Cutups. We are introducing Nelson County's own James River Cutups who will perform at 12:00 and 3:00. This is a family bluegrass band that has been together for over ten years.
Kim and Jimbo Cary with Pete and Ellen Vigour. The Carys and Vigours are leading the popular jam sessions throughout the day and conclude the event with a performance on stage at 6:00 pm.
