The Old Appalachian Trail
This moderate hike is mostly downhill (in a good way). It features three spectacular views, gorgeous ferns, and a fun little rock climb soon after we meet the Old Appalachian Trail (OAT). We start on the Hemlock Drive access trail to the OAT, which is the local "pre-Wintergreen" route of the Appalachian Trail, currently situated just west of the Blue Ridge Parkway. We will follow the OAT for about a mile to where it crosses Laurel Springs Drive near Ravens Roost Point.
Free. No registration, just show up.
Meet on the front porch of The Market at Wintergreen Resort (Exxon Station) for this informal guided hike. (If driving, please park across Mountain Inn Loop.)
While the area hosts a famous resort, most of the trails around and into Wintergreen’s undisturbed forests and streams are teaming with flora, fauna and fungi. Appropriate footwear is advised.
