20 Years of Musical Discovery

What began in 1997 as the American Sinfonietta Performance Academy has now grown into the six programs of the internationally recognized Wintergreen Summer Music Academy. We are celebrating this 20th anniversary with enhanced offerings, excellent faculty, and a renewed passion for excellence in performance and community service.

These are exciting developments, and we hope that young musicians will take advantage of all that Wintergreen has to offer. The programs take place at Wintergreen Resort and are mounted concurrently with the Wintergreen Summer Music Festival.

Our Academy faculty is comprised of high caliber musicians and teachers - all of whom perform in the Festival as Wintergreen Festival Artists. Students learn in masterclass, private lessons, and coachings, as well as by observing their mentors in performance.

Getting to be a part of Wintergreen this summer was such a great experience. I feel like I was able to grow in so many different ways as I got to observe and work with truly fantastic musicians (all at varying stages of their musical lives!). The atmosphere at Wintergreen is so positive and friendly; I felt completely at home from the very first day. I really enjoyed the exposure we were given to non-classical music as well. It was fascinating to talk to and to get to know so many musicians. To see and hear about the different career paths that my peers were headed in and that could also become possibilities for myself in the future was encouraging and very inspiring. One of the things I miss the most about Wintergreen is how strong the feeling of community was - I felt that I was constantly being supported and encouraged by students and teachers alike. I have never been so heartbroken to leave a summer festival as I was at Wintergreen.
