A Czech, a Russian, and Eight Conductors Walk into a Bar
Our favorite Russian returns to lead a fiery performance of Shostakovich Symphony No. 9. Plus, a cello concerto, chamber music from the movies, and more!
Friday, July 21
Learn something new! Start your day with a seminar (and coffee) on child prodigy Felix Mendelssohn, composer of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Stop by a conducting masterclass to learn the tricks of the trade. Have a delicious dinner at the Copper Mine Bistro and then attend our Festive Friday concert – a tribute to great chamber music in cinema.
Saturday, July 22
Dive into what makes a symphony tick in our informative Music 101 class. Stop for lunch on Route 151 and check out our Academy students in action. End the day with a full orchestra concert: Dvorak’s powerful and beautiful Cello Concerto and the exciting Shostakovich Symphony No. 9 conducted by the world-renowned Victor Yampolsky.
Sunday, July 23
The day begins with a Coffee & Kids concert (perfect for the whole family!), with our Academy conducting students demonstrating their mastery. Hear a repeat of the MountainTop Masterworks concert or join us later to listen to (or play in!) our third annual Play with Us! – a community event inspired by the Richmond Symphony’s Come and Play.
