Johanna L. Beaver, viola

Johanna Beaver has an active career as an orchestral violist, chamber musician, and teacher.

As an orchestral violist, Johanna has held positions in the Richmond and Roanoke Symphonies, The Oratorio Society of Virginia, and the Wintergreen Festival Orchestra.

A founding member of the Afton String Quartet, Johanna performs in recitals and educational programs, collaborating with composers and friends on a diverse range of chamber music projects.

Johanna has taught violin and viola on the faculties of the University of Virginia, University of Mary Washington, Interlochen Arts Camp, Ann Arbor Summer Arts Camp, Opus 118 Harlem School of Music, and Stony Brook Pre-college. A frequent guest artist, she has given masterclasses and recitals throughout the eastern U.S. Currently, Johanna serves on the faculties of Mary Baldwin College and Charlottesville Day School.

Johanna holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in viola performance from the State University of New York at Stony Brook where her mentors were Mitchell Stern, Katherine Murdock, and the Emerson String Quartet.
